RECIPE: Classic Ham + Cheese  Sausage Rolls

EN ESPAÑOL AQUI

INGREDIENTS:

  • 500g beef mince
  • 500g pork mince
  • Half a carrot
  • Several small shallots (or onion works too)
  • Several small mushrooms
  • Cheese
  • One egg
  • A packet of storebought puff pastry

METHOD:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200-220°C

  2. Finely chop the carrot, the shallots and mushrooms, and dice the ham into small cubes

  3. Mix the veges, the ham, the mince, the cheese, and salt + pepper together in a large bowl, making sure to mix thoroughly.

  4. Lay out a sheet of pastry, and spread the meat mixture onto the center of it, forming it into a compact log, with as few air gaps as possible as these will expand when cooking.

  5. Roll up the pastry, ensuring to tightly pack the ends and ensure the whole product is as tight as possible, again, as air bubbles are bad!

  6. Then slice the pastry, and lay it out seperately onto trays, giving enough space to allow for a bit of expansion.

  7.  Then they are ready to go into the oven! Cook at 200-220C for about 20-25 minutes, depending on the strength of your oven. They should be beautifully gold and crispy when they are done! Keep in mind that if you cut massive pieces, you may need to reduce the temperature to 180 or 190 and cook for 10-15 longer.
